HORSES The horses at Shungu Huasi are mainly English three-quarter blood cross "Criollo"(descendants of Spanish Conquistadors stock) ideal for the terrain and larger than the majority of the horses available for rent in Ecuador. RIDING ABILITY Inexperienced riders can be accommodated with rides adapted for a slower pace. Guests are welcome to arrive before the tours in order to ride with a guide to acclimatize and adjust to the new tack and style of riding. EQUIPMENT On most camping trips a four-wheel drive vehicle is present at the campsite in the late afternoon and early the following morning. All the hotels used have telephones and on certain rides a mobile telephone is carried. CLIMATE Shungu Huasi rides out all year round. During the day the temperatures can rise to 28C, although most days start with a crisp 8-10º C, and at nighttime temperature can be 4ºC while camping around the crater lakes. ALTITUDE Shungu Huasi is at 9643 ft (2939 m) and on several of the rides we rides up to 11000 ft (3352m). Please therefore note that the sun is very strong. Guests may also feel the effects of the altitude.
