Shugnu Huasi, Camino a Granobles, Cayambe
75 minutes north of Quito. Altitude: 9643ft. (2939m)

This modern finca, a private horse ranch, boasts a beautiful stable complex in a grassy meadow on the floor of the Cayambe Valley. Eucalyptus avenues surround the finca and not far from the stable block are the guest accommodation. The ranch was built and is now run entirely because of the owner's love of horses. The facilities include an all-weather arena and a large grass riding area.

Marcelo
, the owner, takes pride in personally looking after guests who often enjoy exchanging stories with him over a dish of pasta after a long day on the saddle.

Patricio is the trainer at Shungu Huasi and rides out with guests. He has worked all his life with horses and competes regularly at national show jumping events on Shungu Huasi's Hanovarian horses. He shoes and has veterinary skills. He has expertly broken some of the horses that guests will ride.

In February 1997 the guest accommodation was completed: 6 double rooms each with in suite facilities (6 rooms with twin beds)

An Ecuadorian or Italian style three course dinner/lunch is prepared by the cook. The day starts with a healthy American breakfast. The white building with dark wood finishing is very pleasant with all the necessary amenities, for a good night's sleep before heading off for another day in the saddle. Being next to the riding arena, with horses grazing nearby, gives one the impression of really being on a ranch and involved with the horses.
